It’s a long way to the top
Scale Australia’s most famous natural landmark by air to get a sense of its enormity and see the fissures and crevices worn into its ancient surface. A sight to behold from any angle, Uluru from the air is unforgettable. Where rock meets roll, glide over the famous cluster of red-ochre domes that is Kata Tjuta, then travel east to see table-top Mount Conner’s enormous flat plateau and sheer cliff walls.
Animal kingdom
Take flight from Kings Creek Station to see the working cattle and camel station from above before flying over the nearby, majestic George Gil Range and its jewel, Kings Canyon. Hover above the Canyon to trace the path of the rim walk and spot the treasures in the valley below: the Garden of Eden and the Lost City.
Flying low offers a rare opportunity to see wildlife undisturbed in its natural habitat in remote areas. When your pilot lowers the altitude, look out for wild camels and horses searching for food and water in riverbeds and at waterholes, and meandering across the plains. Keep an eye out over Australia’s largest salt lake, Lake Amadeus, and below the rim of Petermann Pound, a remote and expansive crater surrounded by sandstone cliffs.
Prepare for take off
Charter flights and scenic tours can be arranged for departures from Ayers Rock Airport, Yulara (Connellan Airport), and from Kings Creek Station. Check with local operators for schedules and fares.
