MXGP Motocross in Darwin: 3-day adrenaline itinerary

MXGP rips into Darwin from 18–20 September 2026, when Hidden Valley Motorsports Complex hosts the season-deciding round of the FIM Motocross World Championship. This 3-day Darwin itinerary pairs world-class motocross action with the Top End’s best adrenaline activities. Think jet ski tours, croc encounters, chopper pub crawls and sunset cruises – the ultimate long weekend in Australia’s adrenaline capital.

Morning

Kick off your MXGP motocross adventure at Hidden Valley Motorsports Complex as the race weekend gets underway with the all-Australian MX3 and MX85 State Challenge. Feel the power of the bikes and the spray of Top End dirt on one of Australia’s most demanding natural-terrain circuits.

Afternoon

When the flag drops, keep the adrenaline flowing on Darwin Harbour with a high-speed, guided jet ski tour with 00Seven Jet Ski Adventures. Or, for a different kind of heart-racing, head to Crocosaurus Cove and lower yourself into the Cage of Death alongside Australia’s apex predator, the saltwater crocodile – a true NT experience. 

Evening

End your adrenaline-filled day at a slower pace on the waterfront, watching the sun go down with locally caught fish and chips from Frying Nemo at Tipperary Waters Marina.

Start the day at Darwin’s iconic Parap Village Markets, the perfect place to sample the area’s multicultural food scene. Don’t skip the city’s unofficial signature dish, laksa. Yep, laksa for breakfast – it’s a Darwin thing (and if that gets you excited…make sure to book flights back in October for the Darwin International Laksa Festival!)

Once you’re fuelled up, head back to Hidden Valley for the biggest day of track action yet. Saturday brings Australian support-class racing through the morning, before MXGP and MX2 riders hit the track for practice and qualifying races, plus the opening WMX race of the weekend – the session that sets the grid for Sunday’s title decider.

Afternoon

When you’re ready for a change of pace, return to Darwin to take in some of the city’s art and culture. From city-wide street art, galleries exhibiting Aboriginal Art on the Top End Arts Trail to the Museum and Art Gallery of NT (MAGNT) where a 5.1m crocodile locally known as “Sweetheart” takes pride of place.

Evening

Round out the day with sunset drinks and alfresco dinner at Darwin Waterfront. Claim a table at Darwin Sailing Club, Darwin Trailer Boat Club, Darwin Ski Club or join local sailors at Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Club.

Catch the morning motocross session at Hidden Valley before the 2026 MXGP champion is crowned. 

Next up, head to the Adelaide River for a Jumping Crocodile Cruise and watch saltwater crocodiles launch out of the water in a display of raw power.

Nearby, the Corroboree Billabong Wetland Cruise is the perfect way to spend a couple of hours. The area is a rich habitat for crocodiles, wild buffalo, wallabies and birdlife including jabiru, brolga and sea eagles.

On the way back to Darwin, stop at Bark Hut Inn or Humpty Doo Hotel for a pint and a taste of true Territory character.

Cool off on your final night in Darwin at the Waterfront Wave Lagoon or the (free) Recreation Lagoon patrolled by lifeguards. For dinner, head to Nightcliff foreshore for pop-up restaurants, food trucks, a relaxed vibe and one of Darwin’s best sunset views.
